Carriage requirements
Cargo ship :
1. Length of vsl less than 85m ( except oil, gas& chem)
(a) lifeboat not required
(b) life raft :
100% on each side ( If transferable)
150% on each side ( non-transferable)
[For chemical, gas & oil tankers
a) self contained air support type lifeboat.
b) fire protected totally enclosed lifeboat.]
2. Length greater than 85m
(a) lifeboat =100% on each side
(b) life raft :
50% on each side (if transferable)
100% on each side (if non- transferable)
[• life raft can be manual or davit launched, but all should have HRU.
• If vsl has 100% freefall lifeboat at astern, then 100% life raft on each side.]
(c) If distance from forward to survival craft is more than 100 meters than life raft with 6 persons carrying capacity at forward without HRU.
Passenger ship :
1. engaged in long international voyage
(a) lifeboat :
50% on each side (if totally enclosed)
(b) life raft :
25% on each side
[If local administration gives special substitution of lifeboat & liferaft then
Lifeboat + life raft be 37.5% on each side]
2. engaged in short international voyage
(a) lifeboat = 30 % on each side
(b) life raft = 100% on each side
3. Less than 500 grt & less than 200 passengers
(a) lifeboat not required
(b) life raft
• 100% on each side ( if transferable )
• 150% on each side (if non- transferable)
