>/= 6000T - 0.27 N/mm square

(N/mm - Newton per millimeter square)

Fire pump :

• each pump shall have capacity not less than 80% of total required capacity divided by min no of required fire pump, but in any case not less than 25m3/ hr.
• each pump capable of delivering at least 2 required jets of water.
• with two pumps delivering simultaneously, the min pressure shall be

   * Passenger ship:
     < 4000T - 0.30 N/mm2
     >/=4000T - 0.40 N/mm2

   * Cargo ship
     > 6000T - 0.25 N/mm2
     >/= 6000T - 0.27 N/mm2

• no of fire pump shall be
   * passenger ship
   <4000T - at least 2
   >/= 4000T - at least 3

   * Cargo ship
    <1000T - at least 2 power driven pumps one of which shall be independent driven.
    >/= 100T - at least 2

• total capacity of required fire pump in no case exceed 180m3/hr.

           Emergency fire pump

• capacity not less than 40% of total required capacity of fire pump, but in any case not less than 25m3/hr.
• capable of delivering 2 jets of water from biggest nozzle available on board. but not less than 25m3/hr.
• if it is diesel power source pump, should start in cold condition of 0deg c by hand or by power at least 6 times in period of 30min and at least 2 within 1st 10min.
• tank to have sufficient fuel for at least 3hrs & reserve fuel outside main machinery space to allow pump to run for additional 15hrs.
• no direct access between engine room and emergency fire pump.
• isolation valves in tankers to be fitted on the fire main on poop deck and tank deck at intervals not more than 40 meters to pressure integrity of fire main system.
