Rescue boat ( General reguirements, markings & equipements)

         

       

 General requirements 

• length not less than 3.8m and not more than 8.5m

• unless the recue boat has adequate sheer,  it shall be provided with a bow cover extending for not less than 15% of its length.

• carrying capacity at least 5 persons + 1 lying on stretcher.

• manoeuvring speed 6 knots for 4 hours, towing speed 2 knots.

• fuel run of 6 knots for 4 hours.

• carriage requirement at least 1 for more than 500GT and less than 500GT.

   For RORO ships at least 1 fast rescue boat.

   Passenger ships carry at least one on each side (    500GT & above).

Markings on Rescue boat :

1) ship's name & port of registry

2) maker's serial no & date

3) surveyor's stamp 

4) dimensions

5) type of boat

6) carrying capacity

Rescue boat equipments :

• buoyant oars & paddles

• 1 operational compass

• 1 sea anchor

• 1 buoyant bailer

• 1 painter

• 1 buoyant line ( length > 50m)

• 1 whistle

• 1 water proof electric torch

• 1 first aid kit

• 2 buoyant rescue quoits not less than 30m

• 1 radar reflector

• TPA (thermal protective aid) = 10% or 2 whichever is greater

• 1 portable fire extinguisher 

• 1 boat hook

• 1 bucket 

• 1 knife

• 2 sponges

• manually operated pump

• a repair kit
